Links
There are plenty of great sites out there which specialize in links. This page will be about links which are really good. Everything here was selected because it represents the best of the best on the web.
Self Development Sites:
The Urban Monk — The Urban Monk delivers a rare thing — a very tangible approach to self-development, with a well-thought-out balance between the practical and the spiritual. He does a great job of presenting material that isn’t the ’standard fare’ found on other self-help or spiritual websites. Very unique, very relevant, and well-written. Check it out!
Think Simple Now — Tina has created something very special here. Her articles cover a wide range of topics, all of which are relevant to the issues most of us face in our day-to-day life. Her writing is lucid, and she puts extensive, heart-felt effort into each article. She not only creates an understanding of the overall topic, but often gives specific exercises and alternate resources which deal with the topic at hand. Add to that her always-encouraging voice, the example she sets with her own life, and a very active comments section (where readers often add their own stories or reflections on the topic), and you have a site which can be a true friend as you journey through life. I can’t say enough about this wonderful site.
Buddhist-Oriented Sites:
Free Intent (Thoughts on not thinking about not thinking) Ava has created a fascinating site which spans non-dualism, insightful political commentary, and philosophy. You learn a lot here, and have fun at the same time — her posts include original writings, videos, and excerpts. Though not strictly Buddhist, I put her in this category because she touches at the heart of Buddhism, and gives a great dose of overall world-perspective. This is a very fun and enriching place to explore.
The Worst Horse An amazing collection of Buddhist-based links and other fascinating (not to mention entertaining) information, all pertaining to different manifestations of our culture. You can explore here for days.
Zen Stories to Tell Your Neighbors This simple site gives the text of a large number of Zen stories. Its most unique feature is that John Suler, the site’s creator, posts readers’ thoughts and interpretations of the stories. It’s an invaluable reference to notice the psychology of transformation from dualistic to non-dualistic thought, and the human mind’s tendency to hold to conceptual thought patterns.
Pointing At The Moon Named for one of the most helpful concepts in Zen, this site offers carefully selected exerpts, quotes, and poetry from a wide variety of authors.
Do No Harm This is the official website of the ‘Do No Harm’ movement. They’re steadily growing, and have a real desire to spread their message of peace. Help them spread the word! =)
Just Plain Fun Sites:
Jeff Goebel’s World Famous Hiccup Cure This is the real deal, and curiously, is a great pointer toward non-dualism. I haven’t had more than a single hiccup in over a year now, since all I have to do is invoke Jeff’s cure the moment the first one strikes. Oh yes — the rest of his site is pretty fun, too =)
This and That — This site is not a non-dualism resource. However, since it is probably the coolest site in the entire world, I simply had to link to it. If you every think that the world is boring, just visit this site and you’ll get an inkling of how very amazing life is.
Happy News.com Our current cultural bias toward the same depressing genres of news stories finally has some competition. Make this your news site for a week and see if you feel any different. Then get in a good conversation with your friends and see if anyone can successfully defend the notion that ‘Sad News’ is any more relevant than ‘Happy News’.
